My Story

I'm Jessica Lewis, but everyone calls me - Jess.

For as long as I can remember I have always loved the beauty involved with creating clothing, whether that the skill needed for sewing or the creativity of fashion design. I have memories of being a little girl sat at a sewing machine making clothes for my dolls.

After graduating from university with a fashion design degree, I was excited to start my first design job. But blissfully unaware of the harm high street/fast fashion was/is causing to people and to the environment - something which I learned first hand through my years designing for many household name brands.

If you didn't know, the fashion industry currently stands as the second largest polluter, and one of five key sectors contributing most to modern day slavery worldwide! Fast fashion can be described as any inexpensive and rapid garment, made to meet the demand for on-trend clothing.

I felt trapped and like many of you I didn't want to shop in the way fast fashion had manipulated us to, in carelessly buying lots, buying cheap and buying trends. I knew I needed to do the opposite and so I started to try my best to buy less, buy value and buy timeless.

My Rail

I then realised that I could even try and be a small answer for people, like me, who wanted to shop in such a way. And so, I started selling the items on “My Rail” in 2020. My items are reflections of the clothing that I’ve had on my rail, in my studio for years. I hope to create timeless designs, and use beautiful fabric, to make items that will be a treasured part of your wardrobe.

No More Slaves

We have also designed and created a boxy T-shirt for you to buy. No More Slaves is part of the Hope for Justice family. 10% of every No More Slaves T-shirt purchased is donated to support the Hope for Justice mission to end world slavery.

Our T-shirt’s have been made by Mila factory in India. For more info check out mila-clothing.com

Fabrics

I aim to be as sustainable as possible with fabric sourcing and I still have a lot of work to do! One thing we don't like about fast fashion is the lack of transparency so I aim to be as open and honest as possible about our fabrics. As I am a very small business I buy small quantities of fabric and make every item to order. This ensures less waste and over production. My fabrics have been personally sourced from a range of places, all based on quality and natural fibres such as wool, cotton, linen. I love using deadstock fabric where possible, as these fabrics were otherwise going to landfill and we can repurpose them for good! I try and give as much information as possible about our fabrics, such as how they have been tested and how you should wash them. Please let me know if you have any questions or want to see a fabric swatch before you purchase.

Returns and Deliveries

However I don't want you to be unhappy with your item, so if you find any problems please get in touch via email or social media and I will do all I can to find a solution.
